Gunmen have attacked a truck loaded with cattle on Ezinifitte/Uga Road in the Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The incident happened in the early hours of Sunday.
According to a source, the truck was on its way to a market in the state when the gunmen attacked and set it ablaze.
Although no life was lost, an eyewitness revealed that some of the occupants of the truck were injured.
A video clip of the incident seen by our correspondent showed some of the cattle straying off the road into surrounding bushes.
The state police spokesman, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident.
He said, “The Anambra State Police Command has rescued one Mohammed Lawan of Taraba State and recovered 34 livestock within Ezinifite and Uga boundary expressway in Aguata LGA. The rescue is following a distress call today, May 8, around 8am, of suspected arson and cruelty to animals by gunmen.
“Preliminary information revealed that the victims were on transit, conveying livestock to Awarasi, Uga Aguata LGA. Meanwhile, police operatives are currently in the area and normalcy has been restored.”
